Scouting Kaneland at Yorkville

Kaneland (6-0, 2-0) at Yorkville (3-3, 1-1)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today

Last year: Kaneland 10, Yorkville 0.

Last week: Kaneland 42, DeKalb 7; Yorkville 24, Rochelle 12.

Outlook: Beware the trap game. Yorkville, longtime Western Sun doormat, has already equaled last year's wins total, their most victories since 2003. (With Kaneland, DeKalb and Sycamore to end their season it could stay at 3 wins, but that's beside the point.) Kaneland, meanwhile, has fellow unbeaten Sycamore in Week 8 presumably for all the marbles in this first year of the Northern Illinois Big 12's East division. Coach Tom Fedderly's Knights can't be lulled as was Rochelle, which even while running the ball a total 51 times for 223 yards fell behind 17-0 after a quarter on touchdowns by quarterback Brant Corwin and fullback James Milschewski and a Max Brusveen field goal. Foxes coach Jim Still told the Rochelle News-Leader it was the biggest win of his six-year career, over a foe Kaneland defeated 35-8. Foxes senior tackle Matt Anzelc (6-5, 280) has been scouted by Notre Dame, said Fedderly, who noted that Yorkville's top tailback Tony LaMantia was out last week. It's a shame Kaneland quarterback Joe Camiliere isn't 6-foot-5, because he could probably then sign his ticket. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior completed 14 straight passes on DeKalb last week behind usual solid protection, and finished 18-of-22 passing for 306 yards and 5 touchdowns 3 to Quinn Buschbacher (8 catches, 153 yards) and two apiece to Sean Carter and Jacob Razo. Camiliere, whose completion percentage has remained a steady 62, has now thrown 18 touchdown passes with only 1 interception. Fedderly hopes to get Taylor Andrews (ankle) and Kyle Davidson (knee) back on the field. The coach looks for Jimmy Boyle, Blake Serpa and Tyler Callaghan to batten down Yorkville's misdirection offense, and get the football back to Camiliere and Serpa so they can run the thing. "If we're not reading our keys and are peeking in the backfield, that could be a problem," Fedderly said.

Next week: Sycamore (6-0, 2-0) at Kaneland, Oct. 15; Yorkville at DeKalb (3-3, 0-2), Oct. 15.
