No leads on missing Schaumburg baby and father

A missing Schaumburg father and his 3-month-old son had not turned up as of Thursday evening, and police said that while no crime has been committed they will be concerned for the pair's safety until they are found.

Police said 29-year-old Chris Miller picked up his son, Jackson, Wednesday from day care and had an appointment with the child's doctor. The doctor later called the child's mother and said they never showed up.

The wife told police it appears her husband took a large supply of breast milk and diapers with him. There are no domestic issues in their past, said Schaumburg Sgt. John Nebl, and apparently no fights leading up to Wednesday.

The father may be taking his son, who turns 4 months old next week, to his family's home in Louisville, Ky., police said.

Under Illinois law, child abduction charges can be filed against a parent who disappears with a couple's child without the spouse's knowledge, but only after they've been gone 15 days.

The parent also can be charged if he or she doesn't try to contact the spouse and share the child's whereabouts during those 15 days. The law makes an exception for a parent fleeing domestic violence.

Police describe the father as white, 6 feet tall, and weighing 180 pounds. He may be driving a 2003 black Volkswagen Beetle with Illinois plate L324339. Anyone with information is asked to call Schaumburg police at (847) 882-3586.
