Libertyville claims regional crown

Marilyn Stone was, well, a rock.

The Libertyville senior shot an 82 to tie Lake Forest sophomore Paige Skinner for first-place honors and lead the Wildcats to the championship of the Class AA Warren regional at Bittersweet Golf Club on Wednesday.

Skinner was declared medalist.

Libertyville (373), Warren (376) and Vernon Hills (377) all advanced to the Guilford sectional at Ingersoll Golf Course in Rockford next Monday.

Libertyville also counted the rounds of Darinka Sutic (95), Kaitlin Woodyard (98) and Victoria Mendenhall (98).

Warren was led by Kim Spangler's 86, while Erin Walker shot an 88. Jessica Chiesa and Jessica Nelson had a 99 and 103, respectively, for the runner-up Blue Devils.

Vernon Hills saw Lauren Groody shoot an 86 and Sam Neary card an 88. The Cougars also counted Anya Mollenhauer's 101 and Lydia Flynn's 102.

Individual sectional qualifiers included Lakes senior Emma Schutz (92), Carmel junior Jess Trunzo (93) and Mundelein senior Emily Whitemarsh (98).

At Prairie Isle: In the Class AA Prairie Ridge regional, Lake Zurich advanced Gina McCoy and Kelly McGuire, each of whom shot a 103.The three advancing teams were Hampshire (347), Barrington (350) and Crystal Lake Central Coop (353). Prairie Ridge also shot a 353. Lake Zurich (425) was sixth.
