Schaumburg woman on Oprah

Schaumburg resident Erin Merryn, who was sexually abused as a child and now advocates for victims and education, will appear on Wednesday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

he show, which airs at 9 a.m. on ABC 7, will focus on abuse victims including Trudi Chase, who suffered from multiple personality disorder before her death in March. Merryn said her segment will appear at the end. She said Winfrey, herself a victim of sexual abuse, cried during their conversation and joked during a commercial break about needing her makeup team.

Merryn is pushing for the Illinois General Assembly to pass Erin's Law, which calls for schools to implement age-appropriate curriculum on sexual abuse. It already passed in the Senate.
