Arrests made in McHenry County thefts

A pair of Woodstock residents were charged this week in connection with a string of residential and business burglaries between May and August in the Woodstock and Harvard areas, McHenry County Sheriff's officials announced Friday.

Anthony M. Stepina, 35, of the 2000 block of Willow Brooke Drive was charged with 41 various counts, including multiple counts of residential burglary, theft and criminal damage to property for his role in the burglaries that resulted in the theft of landscaping equipment, jewelry and power tools, police said. Stepina had been in custody since Aug. 23 when police said they found him in possession of stolen items. Investigators were able to link multiple items that were reported as stolen to pawnshop records indicating Stepina had possessed and sold the items, a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office said.

Charged with Stepina was Peggy L. Platz, 21, of the same residence on Willow Brooke Road. A warrant was issued for her arrest Thursday and the Illinois State Police took Platz into custody.

Platz was charged with two counts of felony theft. Police said she was in possession of stolen items and provided transportation to the pawnshop for Stepina. Platz was being held in the McHenry County jail.
