Scouting Wheeling at Elk Grove
Wheeling (1-4, 0-1) at Elk Grove (4-1, 1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert Haskell Stadium
Last week: Wheeling lost to Meadows 41-14; Elk Grove d. Buffalo Grove 23-7
Outlook: Both teams are looking for better showings this week the difference was Wheeling lost its fourth straight and Elk Grove overcame 4 turnovers for its third straight win. "Hopefully we're going to hold onto the ball this week," joked Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "It was like two different teams from Schaumburg to last week. I'm impressed with Wheeling and I like their quarterback (Tyler Brady, 778 yards passing) a lot." What Doll did like last week was how the Grens' defense responded with strong play from DB Jimmy Sanders and ILB John Eliades along with LB Joey Bishoff. "It was a step in the right direction," Doll said. Wheeling hopes to get back in the right direction as it can't afford any missteps against QB Nick Meyer (1,615 total yards, 19 TDs) and his deep crew of skill threats. "Meyer is able to do the same things but he does them even better than last year," said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. "We gave up some big plays (last week) and uncharacteristic big plays. Ones where we took ourselves out of position and they capitalized on it, which was something we haven't done." Elk Grove lineman Peter Ioakimidis (knee) is questionable but lineman Justin Cruz returns from injury and Doll said WR-DB Eddie Stahl finally is 100 percent. Elk Grove won 35-6 last year but Wheeling leads the series 16-10.
