We must stop the greed
Part of Obama's health care plan went into effect last week, which should have been headline news but hardly was given any notice in the conservative news media. Among other benefits, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act states that insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to children with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes or drop people from coverage if they get sick.
Parents will have access to pediatric preventive care visits and immunizations recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and dependents will be permitted to remain on their parents' plan until their 26th birthday.
Every Republican voted against this bill, just as they voted against Social Security and Medicare, and will repeal it if they come into power in November. Republicans say we can't afford it, yet they approve of giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 2 percent among us, which cost this country trillions of dollars borrowed from China. This money was supposed to trickle down and help the economy, but you see how that worked out for us. The wealthy do not need this CEOs that used to make 40 percent more than the average worker now make 500 percent more.
Be careful when listening to Republicans they have a slick way of using words. Instead of saying we are discontinuing the tax breaks for the wealthy, they say the Democrats are raising taxes on them. Well, the wealthy have had eight years of tax breaks and it didn't help, and it's time to stop the greed. What kind of Christian nation are we when we give to the wealthy and not the poor and least among us or does the Bible go out the window when it comes to money?
