Man pleads not guilty to stalking woman
A Schaumburg man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he repeatedly followed a Gurnee woman in his car as she was jogging.
Timothy Schroeder, 29, of the 600 block of Newbury Court, faces up to three years in prison if convicted of stalking, but would also be eligible for probation.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Reginald Matthews said a 21-year-old woman who lives in the Bittersweet subdivision of Gurnee called police on July 12 to report she was being followed.
Matthews said the woman told police she had seen a Chevrolet Monte Carlo trailing her for three-quarters of a mile to a mile as she jogged on at least three occasions during June and July.
She was able to give police a description of the car and a partial license plate number, Matthews said, and police stopped the car for speeding about two blocks from her house July 28.
Schroeder was arrested on charges of driving with a revoked license, and the woman identified him as the person who was driving the car that had been following her, Matthews said.
Police said Schroeder initially told them he was in the area because he works in Grayslake and was looking for an apartment to rent, but they rejected that story because there are no apartments in that neighborhood.
Circuit Judge Fred Foreman scheduled a trial of the case for Nov. 8 and ordered Schroeder to appear in court Oct. 26.
