Local schools get pat on back from Chicago Magazine

MacArthur Middle School in Prospect Heights ranks No. 18 on Chicago Magazine's list of best public elementary schools in suburban Cook County.

The stories are in the October issue of the magazine.

"It's an unexpected honor to be in the top 20 of the ranking," said Greg Guarrine, superintendent of Prospect Heights Elementary District 23. "It's a credit to our staff, students and our community and a product of their hard work."

On individual school rankings, Anne Sullivan Elementary School in District 23 ranked 43rd, and Dwight D. Eisenhower School is 45th.

Other local schools also ranked:

• River Trails District 26: Indian Grove School, 39th; River Trails Middle School, 93rd.

• Des Plaines District 62: Terrace School, 41st; Iroquois Community School, 92nd; Cumberland School, 96th.

• Rosemont District 78: Rosemont School, 42nd.

• Elk Grove Township District 59: Ridge Family Center for Learning, 54th.

• Arlington Heights District 25: J.W. Riley School, 56th; Henry W. Longfellow School, 61st; Olive-Mary Stitt School, 68th; Ivy Hill School, 69th; Windsor School, 71st; Thomas Middle School, 73rd; Greenbrier School, 74th; Dryden School, 75th; Patton School, 76th; South Middle School, 81st; Westgate School, 83rd.

The magazine's criteria are the percentage of students who meet or exceed state goals on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test; the pupil-teacher ratio; and instructional spending per pupil.
