Say no to Winfield road referendum

The only thing worse than Winfield roads is the financial condition of our village. President Deborah Birutis is bent on following the Obama stimulus plan by spending money we don't have while trying to convince residents to give more or else the roads will deteriorate and police protection will be negatively affected.

Meanwhile, the Winfield village board proudly resembles Washington bureaucrats saying one thing and doing another. During the 2009 election, these now re-elected board members said the budget was in good shape; they took credit for it because they were experts at managing village finances. One month after being elected they began to reveal the financial problems they created in their previous terms while blaming others. They quickly crafted two road referendum proposals as their No. 1 solution. Sounds like we were had.

As we near the November election, the board has approved the spending of our tax dollars to print propaganda disguised as a village newsletter, with pictures of Birutis telling residents the sky is falling and explaining how the proposed road referendums will save the village. The village is broke, yet she is spending taxpayer dollars in an effort to convince village residents to vote for their multimillion dollar referendums so as to give them millions more of our hard-earned money to squander on pet projects.

Here's an idea, rather then print propaganda messages with our tax dollars, why not use it to fill a few potholes on village streets? Save us the cost of a front-wheel alignment.

I wonder how many of you would have voted for Birutis and her band of yes men if you knew they had plans to significantly increase your real estate taxes through two road referendums. Now, send them the right message and vote no in November to their road referendums.
