Turco's passing part of offense
If Marty Turco's new Blackhawks teammates needed an adjustment period for how he likes to handle the puck and move it up the ice, they didn't show it Saturday against Detroit.
Whenever Turco went to fire the puck out of his end his teammates were waiting for it. Turco made a terrific three-zone pass to Patrick Kane on a power play in the second period that turned into a goal by Duncan Keith.
"These guys are so good, I can put pucks in most places and they're going to get it," Turco said. "These guys are hockey players and they want the puck. They've seen me play before and when we get out on the ice I want them to see the way I shoot it and pass it."
Hawks coach Joel Quenneville repeatedly has said he wants Turco's puck handling to be a key part of the team's game this season.
"As we go along, I think we can grow and get accustomed to where we need to be," Quenneville said.
Advancing research: The family of the late Bob Probert has donated his brain to Boston University researchers who have studied the link between head trauma and how it affects football players, boxers and other athletes.
Probert, considered one of the greatest fighters in NHL history with the Red Wings and the Hawks, died of a heart attack in July at 45.
"I believe that it was a very difficult decision," Daniel Parkinson, whose daughter Dani was married to Probert, told Fanhouse.com. "I know Dani and Bob had spoken about it. I know he wanted to advance the research."
Huet waived: Goalie Cristobal Huet, who was put on waivers by the Hawks on Saturday, will clear Monday and formally be loaned to a team in the Swiss pro league.
While Huet's $5.625 million cap hit comes off the books, the Hawks still must pay his salary this year and next.
Tip-ins: Defenseman Shawn Lalonde and winger Chris DiDomenico were assigned to Rockford on Sunday, leaving the training-camp roster at 35. - Defenseman John Scott made his Hawks debut Saturday and had 3 hits and 3 blocked shots in 14 minutes. Scott missed most of the last week after becoming ill with a high fever.
