Some transportation ideas make sense

The Daily Herald reported on the three candidates for the U.S. House from the 8th Congressional District and their stances on transportation. It is not often I agree with Melissa Bean's direction, but she seems to have the best approach. We need alternative methods for more people to get to the Chicago Loop and O'Hare Airport. An extension of public transportation to feed into O'Hare makes sense.

OK, so I don't really agree with her on everything reported. She loses points when she talks about the Canadian National Railway issues saying she is on top of them, but nothing seems to be changing.

I do have a question for Rep. Bean. Will the access ramps at Meacham Road and I-90 that she supports be for going in both directions or just toward Chicago? Why not ramps going to and coming from the west at Roselle Road?

Joe Walsh wants a bigger, better O'Hare but without anything except bigger roads, which will lead to clogged traffic.

Walsh then states that property owners should be compensated beyond the value of their property if they lose that property to road expansion. Why is that fiscally responsible, Joe? Instead of not supporting the sale of the EJ&E to CN, why doesn't Walsh state what he would do to make CN a better corporate citizen for local towns?

Bill Scheurer is not sure what he wants, according to the report, saying there is too much federal spending on transportation and the 8th District does not get its share. He also states that the Chicago-to-Milwaukee corridor should be improved. Maybe he needs to travel that route to see the improvement already underway.

If "none-of-the-above" is on the ballot and gets the majority of votes, do all three have to stay home from Washington? Less meddling would not be a bad thing.
