Bald tires, weather, send SUV into Naperville residence
A 36-year-old Plainfield man was charged with driving too fast for conditions and having unsafe tires Friday morning after his SUV crashed into a Naperville townhouse.
Police said Jason Stewart, 36, of 1700 Mountain Ridge Pass, lost control of his 1998 Ford Expedition about 7 a.m. and drove into the side of the residence at 1337 Brookdale Road. Sgt. Gregg Bell said the vehicle's tires were "bald."
The vehicle never entered the building but did cause a wall inside the building to collapse. Naperville inspectors later deemed one room of the residence uninhabitable.
A resident inside the building received a minor injury as a result of the crash and was transported to Edward Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. Stewart also sustained nonlife threatening injuries and was hospitalized at Edward.
Stewart also was charged with driving without insurance.
