Scouting Fremd at Schaumburg
Fremd (1-3) at Schaumburg (3-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Gary Scholz Stadium
Last week: Fremd d. Buffalo Grove 26-14; Schaumburg lost to Elk Grove 36-34
Outlook: Schaumburg is the first and a formidable challenger to Fremd's MSL-record run of seven straight West titles. "This is a game everybody looked forward to in terms of being a big game and having a say in terms of what happens in the West," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "Certainly nothing has changed with that because of the records." Stilling said RB Shepard Little (815 yards, 7 TDs) practiced full-speed Wednesday and Thursday with a deep hip bruise and should be ready to go with QB Mark Iannotti (44-for-57, 502 yards, 6 TDs) against Fremd's defense that got 2 INTs last week from Vincent Farrella. The Vikings also controlled the ground game with Justin Wallace (453 yards, 4 TDs) behind Brian Bobek, Jack Konopka and Co., and freshman QB Sam Beutler threw for 139 yards and a TD. "We've played some pretty good teams and we're just selling the kids on the fact the teams we've lost to have only 2 losses," Fremd coach Mike Donatucci said of Lake Zurich, Prospect and Elk Grove. "The run game really picked up last week and it's feeling more like normal." Fremd has won the last eight meetings of a series it leads 15-8.
