WHS' Hometown Celebration honors four
Wheeling High School hosted its 14th annual Hometown Celebration on Sept. 10, honoring two distinguished alumni and honoring the communities that make up the WHS student body: Wheeling; Arlington Heights; Buffalo Grove; Prospect Heights; Northbrook and Mount Prospect.
At halftime, the school honored Northrop Grumman, represented by Jamie Collyer, and Larry Thomas from Artistic Framing - two organizations that have a history of supporting the school.
The 2010 Distinguished Alumni are Caren Koretsy, associate professor in the Geosciences Department and the Environmental Studies Program at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Dr. Mark Lathan, composer and music professor at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.
The concept of the Hometown Celebration emerged from Wheeling High School's Principal's Advisory Council, a committee of parents, community members, staff and students, devoted to fostering a spirit of community and school pride.
