Elk Grove High auto tech program certified

The automobile technician training program at Elk Grove High School has recently met strict industry standards for certification in the areas of brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance and suspension and steering, as recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

The industry certification will provide Elk Grove's automotive students enhanced opportunities in the workplace. A plaque commemorating the achievement will be presented to EGHS automotive instructor Jeffrey Zdenovec and his students.

William Kersten, president of National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation Inc., commented in a congratulatory letter to the school: "Both the educational and automotive communities should be proud of your commitment to quality automotive training."

According to Jeff Jerdee, EGHS director of education to careers and technology education services, robotics and drivers education, "Elk Grove is only one of two high schools in Illinois who have been certified in four categories."

The automotive program of Wheeling High School has previously earned this distinction.

Jerdee added, "Jeff (Zdenovec) is also to be commended for his leadership role in attaining this certification. Over the last two years he has assisted Rolling Meadows, Buffalo Grove and John Hersey high schools as they prepare to become certified this current school year."
