Bears fine Manumaleuna $22,000
It was an expensive week for Bears players.
The team fined veteran tight end Brandon Manumaleuna $22,000 for failing to attend a mandatory team meeting Saturday evening prior to last week's season opener against the Lions, according to a report by Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com.
Manumaleuna mistakenly believed the meeting to be Sunday morning. But the fine shouldn't cause him any financial hardships, considering he signed a five-year, $15 million deal in the off-season as an unrestricted free agent. He will earn just over $6 million this season alone.
Asked about the fine, Bears coach Lovie Smith said: "Do you think I would talk about something that happens internally anyway? No, we don't talk about things that we handle internally. If there's something I think you guys need to know, I'll let you know right away."
Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher and defensive end Julius Peppers were each fined $5,000 by the league for personal fouls in the 19-14 victory over the Lions.
