Streamwood man gets 8 years in prison for 6th DUI

A Streamwood man charged with his sixth DUI was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday.

Because he has five prior convictions, Arturo Carrillo, of the 800 block of East Schaumburg Road, was charged with a class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

Shortly after midnight on May 17, a Streamwood police officer noticed music blaring from the car Carrillo was driving along Bartlett Road, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber.

The officer watched as Carrillo, 38, turned into a convenience store parking lot and staggered into the store, Gerber said. When Carrillo exited the store, the officer observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him. The officer also noticed the defendant had bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech, Gerber said.

Tests later registered his blood-alcohol content at .221, Gerber said.

Twice before, courts sent Carrillo to prison for drinking and driving. In 2005, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison and in 2002 he received an 18-month sentence.

Carrillo, who prosecutors say has several aliases, received credit for 123 days in custody and was also ordered to pay $6,905 in fines.
