Crystal Lake man denies attack on Lake Villa-area woman

A Crystal Lake man charged with attacking a female acquaintance pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court.

David Terry, 46, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in the May 12 attack.

Assistant State's Attorney George Pappas said Terry, of the 3800 block of Overland Road, was a friend of the 42-year-old woman and her family.

Pappas said Terry entered the victim's house in the 39000 block of Route 59 in Lake Villa Township around 10 a.m. and after her husband and children had left the house. Terry confronted the woman in the kitchen and made sexual advances, Pappas said, that the woman refused.

Terry then grabbed the woman and started pulling at her clothing, Pappas said, and she struggled with him. Pappas said Terry then left the victim's house to go to a gas station and told the woman he intended to return.

After Terry left, Pappas said, the victim called a friend and told her what had happened and the friend urged the victim come to her house.

Terry called the victim on her cell phone while she was at her friend's house, Pappas said, but the woman did not answer the call.

Pappas said police have reviewed the security camera tape at a nearby gas station, and Terry is shown purchasing something during the time frame the woman described.

Associate Judge Daniel Shanes scheduled a trial of the case for Nov. 15 and ordered Terry to appear in court Oct. 22.
