Bears Forte named NFC Offensive Player of the Week
LAKE FOREST - Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 201 yards from scrimmage (50 rushing and 151 receiving) including touchdown receptions of 89 and 28 yards in Week 1 versus Detroit.
Forte's 151 receiving yards were second most in franchise history by a running back and the most by a running back in NFL history on Kickoff Weekend. The 89-yard touchdown reception was tied for the fourth longest pass in team history, the longest play from scrimmage by a Bears running back in franchise history, the longest reception by an NFL running back since 2001 (Jamal Anderson, ATL vs. CAR; 9/23/01) and tied for the longest play from scrimmage by the Bears in Soldier Field history (89 yard pass from QB Vince Evans to WR Rickey Watts, 9/21/80 vs. MIN). The 28-yard touchdown reception gave the Bears a 19-14 lead with 1:32 remaining in the contest.
This is the first NFC Offensive Player of the Week award of Forte's career. Forte is the first Bears running back to win the award since Anthony Thomas in 2001 (Week 14). He is the first Bears player to be named NFC Offensive Player of the Week since QB Jay Cutler in Week 16 of the 2009 regular season.
