We need a leader with a solid plan
This year's Illinois gubernatorial race is going to be another case of "hold your nose as you cast your vote." None of the candidates brings much to the table. Bill Brady apparently doesn't feel we are entitled to know how he plans to govern before casting our votes. Pat Quinn is at least talking, but appears to be more disorganized and inept with each utterance. As for Scott Lee Cohen, well, what can you say? And, of course, there's the Green Party. Does anyone know anything about them or their candidate? I didn't think so. You'd think a state as large as ours could give us at least one clear choice.
So, what are Illinois voters to do come this November? Perhaps we should all write in Henry Horner's name on the ballot. He was the Illinois governor who I understand did a fairly credible job of leading our state through the Great Depression, though I wasn't around at the time. Yes, he gave us the sales tax, but on the plus side he was known as an honest man and a sound fiscal manager when we needed one. Old Henry is long gone, but he just may be our best choice nonetheless.
