Marian Central announces activities for homecoming

Marian Central Catholic High School begins a week of homecoming festivities Monday, Sept. 13.

Craig Stantesly, student council adviser, and Mitch Ennis of Cary, student council executive president, have announced that "Spirit Week" is filled with activities for current students, their parents and alumni.

The homecoming theme this year is titled "Gotham City."

The daily events include:

• Monday, Sept. 13: It's "Farmville" day. All students and staff may dress up as their favorite farm animal. You may also come as a farmer.

• Tuesday, Sept. 14: "Mismatch Day!" Come to school as if you got dressed in the dark. Wear two different socks, shoes, bizarre colors, plaids, stripes, etc. The crazier, the better.

• Wednesday, Sept. 15: "Jocks and Nerds" is the theme for this day. Freshmen and sophomores wear sports jerseys, uniforms and other athletic attire, while juniors and seniors dress a classic example of an extremely studious and intelligent individual.

• Thursday, Sept. 16: The theme is "Fiesta Day." Bring out the maracas, colorful ponchos and sombreros.

The "Powder Puff" football game between the junior and senior girls begins at 7 p.m. at the football field. Admission is free with a canned food item, otherwise there is a $2 charge. The junior and senior girls will be playing one another, and parents are encouraged to come out and enjoy the fun.

• Friday, Sept. 17: Today is a "Spirit Dress Down Day." Students will display as much Hurricane spirit as possible, with athletes in their jerseys and uniforms and other students wearing the Marian Spirit shirt, solid red or blue shirts/Marian uniform shirts, nice jeans, socks and tennis shoes.

The day will begin with an All School Mass at 8:55 a.m., followed by the introduction of Peter Wilt, the 2010 Distinguished Alumni recipient. This year there are also three Alumni Excellence Recipients - James Collins, Andy Hartlieb and Laura Lalor.

At 2:09 p.m., students will attend a pep rally and then it is off to the Woodstock Square for the homecoming parade beginning at 3:30 p.m. Marian's homecoming football games against Marmion Academy will be at 5 p.m. sophomore game and 7 p.m. varsity game. The homecoming queen will be crowned between the games.

Additionally, the 2010 Sports Hall of Fame winners will be inducted during halftime of the varsity game. This year's inductees are Katie Conway, 2000; Katie LaBracke Kannenberg, 2000; Joe Rockers, 1997; J.D. Sheldon, 1998; and Katie Westfall, 2000. Dixie O'Hara is being honored in the Friends of Marian category

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the homecoming dance and the announcing of the homecoming king are from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Doors lock at 8:30 p.m.
