Fox Lake Mayor's Challenge:The 11th annual Fox Lake Mayor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday and benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Registration begins at 7 a.m. followed by a race warmup at 7:30 a.m. Runners will leave the starting line first at 8 a.m., followed by walkers at about 8:05 a.m. The start and finish line is at Millennium Park at Grand Avenue and Rollins Road, across from the Fox Lake Town Center shopping center. The race takes participants from Millennium Park slightly north to Grand Avenue, where the course turns west. Participants head up Grand before turning south on Devlin Road, then turn northwest back onto Rollins. The first 250 entries will receive a race T-shirt. The cost is $20 for adult runners and walkers. Students up to 14 years of age pay $10.Electronics recycling:A residential household electronics collection is 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lake County Division of Transportation facility, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. The event sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County is free. Residents can dispose of unwanted appliances, televisions, computers and more. Visit www.swalco.org for a list items that are accepted and not accepted. All plastic and metal is recycled and hard drives are ground up and recycled with the metal.Nominating petitions in District 116:Nominating petition forms for the April 5, 2011, election in Round Lake Area Unit District 116 will be available starting Tuesday. Forms may be picked up from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. weekdays at the school board secretary's office, 801 Sunset Drive, Round Lake. Five seats on the seven-member elected District 116 board will be up in the April 2011 election. Four posts will be for four-year terms and one for a two-year term. A petition must be filed to the same board secretary's office between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. To be eligible for the school board, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen on the day of election and at least 18 years old. The candidate also must be an Illinois resident and registered voter who's lived within District 116's boundaries at least one year before the election.Volunteers collect donations:The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Lake County's Community Action Partnership will support National Service Week by collecting donations for local hospitalized veterans at the North Chicago V.A. Hospital. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, look for the "Red Box" at local volunteer sites. All of the money collected will be used to purchase canteen booklets. Each canteen booklet costs $5 and can be used by a veteran to purchase needed personal items at the PX. People who would like to donate but are not near a volunteer site are urged to mail in donations to RSVP/CAPOLC P.O. Box 9059, Waukegan, IL., 60079.
