Scouting Vernon Hills at Lakes

Last week: Vernon Hills d. Raby, 56-0; Lakes d. Harvard, 21-14.

Skinny: After back-to-back blowouts, Vernon Hills figures to get its first real test, as the Cougars face a Lakes team that has gotten strong play from little RB James Zell and a physical defense. Zell has rushed for 230 yards and 4 TDs (5 total) on just 24 carries. When he experienced leg cramps in the second half against Harvard last Friday, sophomore Direll Clark (8 carries, 50 yards) filled in well. ... Vernon Hills stars Evan Spencer and DaVaris Daniels have dominated early on, even though the Cougars have not depended on them. Spencer and Daniels have scored 6 and 4 TDs, respectively, in limited action, and both players have returned an interception for a score. FB Brian Palmer (17 carries, 176 yards, 2 TDs) has been tough to bring down too. Cougars LB Austin Miller has 10 solo tackles, including 3 sacks and 3 others for loss.
