Chicagoland officially off 2011 IndyCar schedule
MILWAUKEE -- With the Milwaukee Mile expected to rejoin the IndyCar series schedule next year, the auto racing series will not race at Chicagoland Speedway in 2011.
In a statement, Chicagoland Speedway president Craig Rust says the track was unable to come to terms with IndyCar for an event next year but has had "positive discussions" with IndyCar officials about bringing the series back in the future.
IndyCar will unveil its 2011 schedule at the Milwaukee Mile Friday and is expected to announce that the Mile will once again host the series after a hiatus because of financial problems. Last month, IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said it was unlikely that the series would continue to race at Chicagoland if Milwaukee rejoined the schedule.
"With the many changes made to our 2011 schedule, we were unable to come to terms with the IndyCar Series for an event at our facility next season," Rusty said. "We've had some positive discussions with the league throughout the past couple of weeks regarding the return of the IndyCar Series to Chicagoland Speedway in the future and will continue to keep an open dialogue with them as we move forward."
