Dist. 70 partners with SunsetLibertyville Elementary District 70 is teaming with Sunset Foods beginning Monday, Sept. 13 in the "Five for the Future" program. For each reusable bag, a nickel from Sunset, 1451 Peterson Road, will be donated to the school district. The bags must actually be used for shopping and customers should tell cashiers they want to donate to the program. The money collected will be used in the District 70's Partners for Excellence in Education for teacher mini-grants that focus on the environment, "going green," and recycling.Law enforcement expoThe Vernon Hills Police Department will host its sixth Annual Law Enforcement Exhibition, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at Westfield Hawthorn Mall, routes 60 and 21. Officers from about two dozen departments will be on hand and there will be handouts and giveaways. Visitors can see specialty vehicles, a 9-1-1 simulator, squad cars, motorcycles, police bicycle units and try a Firearms Training Simulator (FATS), an interactive video-game-type police training unit that presents various situations. The police helicopter will land at 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot outside of Sears and stay for about two hours. Kits for children, including fingerprints, photos and video interviews will be available on the upper level next to Macy's.
