Fox Lake race aids Susan G. Komen foundation
Fox Lake officials are gearing up to take part in the 11th annual Fox Lake Mayor's Challenge 5K Run/Walk scheduled for Saturday morning.
The event benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Registration begins Saturday at 7 a.m., with runners and walkers leaving at about 8 a.m. American Fitness will again hold a race warmup at the starting line at 7:30 a.m. Runners will be let go from the starting line first, at 8 a.m., with walkers leaving at about 8:05 a.m.
The start and finish line is at Millennium Park at Grand Avenue and Rollins Road, across from the Fox Lake Town Center shopping center.
The race takes people from Millennium Park slightly north to Grand Avenue, where the course turns west. People head up Grand before turning south on Devlin Road, then turn again, this time northwest back onto Rollins and back to the starting line.
People can register the day of the event or by calling the village at (847) 587-2151. Participants can pick up runners' packets at the village hall, 66 Thillen Drive, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
The first 250 entries into the event will get a race T-shirt.
The cost of the event is $20 for runners and walkers in the race, or $25 for people attending the race as well as the all-you-can-eat pasta dinner scheduled for tonight. Students up to 14 years of age pay only $10. Tickets for the pasta dinner only are $5.
The pasta dinner will take place on from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Fox Lake Volunteer Bingo Hall, 114 Washington St.
People also can purchase a sign to be placed on the race route for $25. Interested parties should obtain a form by visiting foxlake.org. The deadline is today.
The village of Fox Lake will offer free Shuttle Service within village limits for senior residents wishing to attend the race or to the pasta dinner.
