Elgin cops hope bust puts dent in local drug trade
Elgin police hope they put a damper on part of the suburban drug trade this week with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and seizure of four pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms valued at $26,000.
Bail was set today at $100,000 for Ian B. Henning, 32, of the 14N500 block of Bonnie Lane, Elgin.
Elgin Police arrested Henning about 6 p.m. Tuesday at a business at South McLean Boulevard and Chicago Street after authorities got a tip from Schaumburg police, said Elgin Sgt. James Lullo.
Lullo said police found four pounds of psilocybin mushroom in Henning's car, along with 83 9-millimeter bullets.
"That's a lot of mushrooms. That amount is definitely something we don't see a lot of," Lullo said. "We think he was probably selling them in the suburban area. (The arrest) should put a dent in it."
The mushroom charge - possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - is the most serious Henning faces, carrying a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison.
Police said that as a felon, it is against the law for Henning to possess firearm ammunition.
Henning also was wanted on a variety of traffic offenses and a possession of marijuana warrant issued by Elgin police in July 2009, according to police and court documents.
He is scheduled to appear in Kane County court Sept. 22.
