Blackhawks promote Bowman, 4 other executives

Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman was one of five executives promoted by the club on Tuesday.

Bowman's new title is now vice president/general manager after helping lead the Hawks to their first Stanley Cup championship in 49 years. Bowman, now 37, became the youngest GM in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup.

In addition, Jay Blunk was named executive vice president, Kevin Cheveldayoff assistant general manager/senior director of hockey operations, Al MacIsaac vice president/assistant to the president, and Chris Werner vice president of ticket operations and customer service.

"Stan, Jay, Kevin, Al and Chris have worked hard to build a strong and cohesive operation," president John McDonough said in a statement. "They have been instrumental in maintaining a unified relationship between the hockey and business operations of our franchise."

• The Hawks also announced Tuesday the Sept. 18 training camp festival to be held at the United Center is sold out. More than 18,000 fans are expected for the third annual event.

Head coach Joel Quenneville will be wearing a microphone for the standing-room only crowd watching the action on the United Center ice. Outside festivities include a 5K run/walk, a 10K inline skate, a three-on-three street hockey tournament, a bags tournament, and live music in addition to refreshments and appearances by former Blackhawks.
