47th annual Grayslake Lions steer roast ready to rollGrayslake's Lions Club chapter will host its 47th annual steer roast from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. The event will be at Grayslake Middle School, off Library Lane west of Route 83. The school is just north of Center Street. It'll be an all-you-can-eat meal priced at $12 for adults and $11 for seniors 62 and older. The cost to children ages 5 to 11 is $6, with anyone younger than 4 eating for free. Lions officials say all proceeds will stay in the community and benefit the hearing and vision impaired.Foreign students visit Grayslake North and CentralStudents from Spain in the Share America International Exchange planned to begin their local stay with a welcome breakfast today at Grayslake North High School. Officials said 15 pupils will be at Grayslake North and 10 at Grayslake Central High School during their visit expected to last until Sept. 24. Officials said the Spanish exchange students will live with Grayslake-area families, experience American culture and immerse themselves in the English-speaking homes.Forest preserve program teaches kids about spidersKids can learn about spiders in a Lake County Forest Preserve District program called "Awesome Arachnids" on Sept. 26. The hourlong program begins at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Forest Preserve near Wauconda. Kids ages 6 to 8 can attend. Admission is $4 for county residents or $6 for anyone else.
