Ex-Bears QB Dan LeFevour picked up by Bengals

Although the Bears cut sixth-round pick Dan LeFevour on Saturday, they were hoping to add him to their practice squad today.

But the Cincinnati Bengals claimed the rookie from Downers Grove with the idea of developing him behind starter Carson Palmer and his brother Jordan. The Bengals chose to go with LeFevour rather than veteran J.T. O'Sullivan.

Because of the right shoulder injury to No. 2 quarterback Caleb Hanie, the Bears were forced to sign 38-year-old veteran Todd Collins and keep both backups on the final 53-man roster, giving them three quarterbacks, one more than they kept active last year. The Bears could not afford to keep a fourth quarterback on the active roster at the expense of another position.

The Bears did sign seven players to their practice squad Sunday, all of whom were cut on Saturday. Headlining the list was wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias, their second third-round draft pick (99th overall) last year. The others are offensive tackle Levi Horn, offensive linemen James Marten and Edwin Williams, wide receiver Greg Mathews, defensive end Barry and fullback Eddie Williams.

The Bears have one remaining practice-squad spot available.
