Cops: Man attacked 'Good Samaritan' in Elgin
A Woodstock man is accused of attacking a 33-year-old Elgin woman in her car after he claimed he needed help and transportation.
Octavio Nunez, 36, of the 200 block of Ash Avenue, faces four felony charges -- two counts of criminal sexual abuse, unlawful restraint and failure to register as a child sex offender.
The most serious charge carries a 2- to 5-year prison term, but up to 30 months probation also is an option.
Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson said the incident took place at about 5 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Airport Road, where Nunez claimed to have a hotel room.
The woman called 911 and left the line open for operators to listen before the attack took place and then drove Nunez to the Grand Victoria Casino, where he was later arrested.
"The victim did not know the suspect. She was being a Good Samaritan and picked him up," Olafson said.
The victim, who was not seriously injured, called police back and Nunez was arrested, Olafson said.
Nunez' bond was set Monday at 10 percent of $100,000 and he is due in court on Sept. 10.
