Firefighters battling Crystal Lake blaze

Crystal Lake firefighters are on the scene of a blaze in the 0 to 100 block of John Street, fire officials said Monday morning.

A battalion chief from Crystal Lake said firefighters were called to the scene at about 9 a.m. after a mattress caught fire in the basement of a house. He said smoke was coming from the basement and first floor when crews arrived on the scene.

He added he did not know of any injuries in the blaze, but said firefighters continue to work to get the fire out.

He said the cause of the blaze and the amount of damages remains under review, and that additional information would be released later Monday.
