Scouting Niles North at Elk Grove

Niles North (3-6) at Elk Grove (7-4)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert Haskell Stadium

Last year's opener: Elk Grove d. Niles North 39-7

Outlook: Last year was Nick Meyer's coming-out party as he threw for 379 yards and 3 TDs for Elk Grove. "That kid sure did have a heck of a game throwing the ball," said Niles North coach Scott Smith. "Our kids know where No. 7 is." Although the Vikings have only 29 players on the roster, Smith said they're stronger and faster as QB Bo Bradarich runs the wing-T with RBs Sam Sharples and Oshanye Brown. Three-year starting LBs George Newhouse, who also plays center, and Dan Egan lead the defense. "I feel like we're ready to go in and compete and give them a run," Smith said. Elk Grove looks for a good start to a season with high expectations. "I'm impressed with Newhouse," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll.
