Scouting Huntley at Wauconda
Huntley (5-5) at Wauconda (4-5)
When: today at 7:30 p.m.
Last year: Huntley 28, Wauconda 23
Outlook: These teams collide in a nonconference season opener for the fourth straight year. Huntley used victories in the last two meetings as springboards to playoff appearances. The Red Raiders hope to make it 3-for-3 behind returning senior quarterback Tim Lycos, the leader of the offense. Last year he rushed for 544 yards 4 TDs and threw for 590 yards and 4 scores. Wauconda returns all-North Suburban Conference senior quarterback Brian Kent, who will target returning receivers Brandon Dorsey and Jake Ziolkowski in the shotgun spread offense. New coach Matt Gehrig said the Red Raiders and Bulldogs have a lot in common. "They're a lot like us," Gehrig said. "They've got a real athletic quarterback who can really run the ball on running plays. If he drops back to pass and you don't contain him, he's going to run right down the field on you. He's a big, strong, fast kid and that's a major strength of theirs. They like to throw the ball down field with him. He's got a great arm."
