Scouting Hoffman Estates at Bartlett
Hoffman Estates (0-9) at Bartlett (3-6)
When: Saturday 1:30 p.m. at Millennium Field
Last year: Bartlett 47, Hoffman Estates 0
Outlook: Bartlett hopes to repeat its success in last year's season opener and get its bounce-back season off on the right foot. The Hawks missed the playoffs last season, ending a string of nine straight appearances. A win in nonconference play could be essential to those playoff aspirations with the rough-and-tumble schedule in the Upstate Eight's Valley Division still ahead. "We have a tough schedule with our division," Bartlett coach Tom Meaney said, "but I think our kids are going to bounce back." The Hawks return starting quarterback AJ Bilyeu, who completed 54 percent of his passes as a junior for 967 yards and 5 touchdowns. Hoffman Estates' triple option attack is led by returning quarterback David Gutierrez. Bartlett did not face Gutierrez, who ran for 539 yards last season, because he missed the first four games with a broken foot.
