Scouting Highland Park at Stevenson

Highland Park (7-4) at Stevenson (10-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last season: Stevenson def. Highland Park, 34-0.

Outlook: The Bill Mitz Era is over and the Bill McNamara Era at Stevenson gets its start under favorable conditions: at home and against a team that the Patriots dominated 34-0 last season. The Patriots will again turn to seasoned quarterback Kevin Earl, who will look to connect frequently with veteran wide receiver Steve Salata. - After losing its season opener to Stevenson last season, the Giants rebounded nicely to win seven of their next eight games. They also got to the second round of the playoffs. "Highland Park is going to be a tough team," said McNamara, who takes over as Stevenson head coach after serving 18 years as an assistant. "They've got seven returning starters back on defense and a great athlete on offense in Cole Stern." Stern, who is getting looks from Big Ten and Ivy League schools, plays multiple positions for Highland Park and is dangerous both running and catching the ball.
