Rams' wide receiver could miss season
ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery could miss the entire season after tearing a right knee ligament late in the first half of a preseason game.
Avery led the Rams with 47 receptions last year. He was hurt Thursday night with 1:32 to go in the first half of a 36-35 victory at New England on the landing after an attempt at a leaping catch. He fell and clutched his knee as the pass from Sam Bradford dropped incomplete.
Avery was a second-round draft pick out of Houston in 2008 and is the most experienced member of the Rams' largely untested wide receiver group. He has started 28 games the first two seasons and caught two passes for 48 yards against the Patriots before the injury.
