Six hurt after car strikes bus in Mount Prospect

Five passengers on a Pace bus were injured when a vehicle rear-ended the bus this morning in Mount Prospect, according to authorities.

Maryann Mauer,41, of Des Plaines was driving a crossover SUV westbound on Algonquin Road at about 7:45 a.m., according to the Mount Prospect Fire Department, when she hit the bus. The bus was stopped at a bus stop just west of Elmhurst Road, officials said.

About 20 people were riding on the bus when the accident occurred, and five were sent to local hospitals along with Mauer.

Mauer was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid an accident.

Of the six total injured in the accident, two were sent to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, two were sent to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Hoffman Estates and two were sent to Advocate Lutheran General Medical Center in Park Ridge, fire officials said.

All six were treated for minor injuries.
