Schaumburg finalist for 'green' award

Schaumburg announced today that it has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2010 Governor's Sustainability Award for its Comprehensive Green Action Plan.

It's the village's second honor of this nature this month: the National League of Cities has announced the village as the only finalist for Illinois for its 2010 Awards for Municipal Excellence.

The winner of the state award will be announced in October, and the winner of the national award will be announced in December. The state competition evaluates environmental sustainability activities within businesses and municipalities in Illinois.

In 2008, the village approved an action plan to expand and build upon over 30 sustainability programs, policies, and ordinances that are already in place to strengthen the village's commitment to the environment.
