Man survives being hit by Metra train in DuPage County
A man survived being hit by a train early Friday morning in Roselle, a spokesman from Metra confirmed, the second such incident in DuPage County this month.
Ryan Giner, 25, of Roselle, was hit at about 1:35 a.m. by the last Milwaukee District West Line train of the night, according to Metra officials. The train hit the man at 540 E. Irving Park Road, between the Medinah and Roselle stations.
Giner was walking on the tracks toward the oncoming train when the Metra engineer sounded the horn. The engineer said Giner stepped off the tracks, but continued to walk toward the train on the side of the tracks, according to Metra officials.
After the accident, Giner was conscious and speaking with responders at the scene, according to Metra.
Giner was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove following the accident and treated for head injuries, according Metra.
The incident resulted in a 73-minute delay while Roselle police investigated the scene.
On Aug. 10, Imran Sulaimana, 29, of Hanover Park, was struck by a freight train along the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Wheaton. Sulaimana, hit while on a section of the tracks near Ellis Avenue, was in critical condition following the accident, but survived, Wheaton police confirmed on Friday.
