Mount Prospect man killed while riding bike

A 62-year-old man was killed early Thursday after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near Golf and Busse roads in Mount Prospect, authorities said.

Michael Wolfe, of Mount Prospect, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, a Cook County Medical Examiner spokesman said Thursday. The medical examiner's spokesman said Wolfe died due to head injuries.

Mount Prospect officials said police were called to the intersection at approximately 2:10 a.m. with a report of a car striking a bicyclist.

Police said in the news release the driver of the car, an 85-year-old Des Plaines resident, was not injured in the crash and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The Mount Prospect Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash, police officials said. The intersection was shut down until 8 a.m. Thursday while the scene was investigated.
