Dist. 214 Community Education to start swim program
District 214 Community Education is about to make a big splash this fall as plans are finalized for launching an exciting age-group swim program, WHAM Aquatics.
WHAM Aquatics will serve four age groups: Dynamos for ages 8 and under; Chargers for ages 9 and 10; Turbos for ages 11 and 12; and Power, for ages 13 through high school age. The fall season will run from Sept. 20-Feb. 20. The high school season will be 12 weeks. Boys will begin on Sept. 20 through Nov. 21 while high school girls will pick up their season starting Nov. 22 through Feb. 13.
Those interested should go to the Community Education website, www.ce214.org, to register.
The different age groups will be listed under the following classes: DYNA for Dynamos, CHAR for Chargers, TURB for Turbos, POWR for 13 and over, POWG for high school girls, and POWB for high school boys.
Practices will run evenings at Wheeling High School's aquatics facility six days a week except Fridays.
"I am excited that our district will finally have a feeder swim program for our high schools," said Michael S. Field, director of District 214 Community Education. "This is an outstanding competitive swim program. It will offer our kids the chance to develop their skills, be part of a team and have fun at the same time."
In preparation for the regular swim season, a one-day Stroke Clinic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Wheeling High School Aquatics Facility. Registration fee for the clinic will be $10 and you can go to the Community Education website to register. Classes will be under CLIN1 for 8 and under, CLIN2 for 9 and 10, CLIN3 for 11 and 12, and CLIN4 for 13 and over.
