Birthers, Beck et. al. a source of sadness

When I read that an increasing number of people believe President Obama is a Muslim, and that there are still a significant number of Republicans who are "birthers" (believing President Obama was not born in Hawaii), it saddens me.

It also reminds me that there were a large number of Americans who believed that Saddam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks and, even years after it was disproved, still believed that he had a large number of WMDs.

Those are the people who believe what they want to believe and haven't sorted out yet how to tell entertainers (e.g. Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly, and Palin, et al) from legitimate, investigative, newsmen (e.g. Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Fareed Zakaria, Candy Cowley, et. al.).

And that not only saddens me, it scares me.
