Many teen drivers not mature enough
When my sons told me the news that two boys they knew casually died in a car accident this weekend, I was saddened and concerned. When the report revealed that the teens were speeding, by some accounts at 100 miles per hour in a Porsche after 11 p.m., my feelings changed from sadness and concern to anger at the waste of two lives.
As the mother of two teenage boys who do not drive, I stand by my decision that these kids will not have licenses until they are emotionally mature enough to understand and accept the responsibility, and until they have a justifiable reason to drive. There are enough dangers on the road as it is. Add to this young, reckless teenagers, and we are all in peril behind the wheel.
Thankfully, nothing happened to the occupants of the vehicle that was hit, but it could have been so much different. Now the families of these two boys grieve the lives that were cut short - for no other reason than speeding in a Porsche felt good at that moment. What a shame.
