Pelosi's swamp is still very full
A recent letter to the editor seemed to suggest that Republicans in Congress did not want to pass the $30 billion extension of unemployment benefits. Nothing could be further from the truth. What the Republicans did not want was all the billions of dollars of extra "goodies" that the Democrats had added to the bill to help all their special interests.
The Democrats constantly want to ram spending through Congress before the November election, and this is totally irresponsible. We now have a debt of over $13 trillion, growing every day, and absolutely no attempt to rein. A recent meltdown by a New York Democratic congressman concerned another $8.5 billion they wanted for the health care of the 911 first responders, which the Republicans once again opposed because it was one more reckless attempt to add to the deficit, when we already have money in the stimulus "pot." Probably a worthy cause, but just about every thing proposed can always be justified by the group wanting it. And that is exactly the problem. We know longer can provide for the wishes of everyone.
The census bureau recently announced that there are 18.9 million homes standing empty in the nation. Somewhere around 16 million people are unemployed; the economy has stalled (only 2.4% growth in the 2nd period); immigration problems ruining some states. And how does Obama help? He sues them. And let us not forget all the ethics violations that are coming down. You remember the famous "drain the swamp " comment by Nancy Pelosi. Up on ethics charges is U.S. Rep Charlie Rangel, chairman of the tax writing house ways and means committee, who is accused of failing to pay his taxes, among other things. Her swamp is still very full.
