Five charged with dumping garbage in Mt. Prospect pool

Five Mount Prospect boys and young men, ages 16 to 18, have been arrested in connection with a 55-gallon container full of garbage and dog feces being dumped into a Mount Prospect pool on Aug. 1.

Each boy was charged with vandalism and trespassing and will appear at the Rolling Meadows courthouse on Sept. 17, according to Mount Prospect Police Officer Greg Sill.

Police are releasing only the name of the one 18-year-old, Piotr Kolodziej of the 1000 block of Linneman Road in Mount Prospect.

Police were able to track down the boys thanks to an anonymous tip, said Sill who is still not sure why the boys vandalized the pool.

It took park district officials an entire day to clean out the Big Surf Wave Pool at Lions Park and super chlorinate the water.

The vandals managed to carry or roll the drum over an eight-foot fence to get it to the pool.

"I'm just glad they were able to catch those responsible, said Walter Cook, chief executive officer of the Mount Prospect Park District.

The park district lost $2,850 closing the pool for a Sunday while the pool was cleaned, Cook said.

Cook added it is up to a judge to decide if in addition to fines, the boys should repay the park district.
