Rare bird at Schaumburg Airport
A P-51C Mustang, restored to the same condition it was in when it was flown by the famed Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, will be on display Saturday and Sunday at Schaumburg Airport.
The Red Tail Project, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, completed a $1 million restoration of the Mustang in 2009, and as they tour it around the country, pilots and crew tell audiences the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first black fighter pilots to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Donations will be taken to support the goal of a traveling museum - the goal is to raise $500,000 by Dec. 1.
