Judge Popejoy does owe an explanation
Maybe at the end of the day a judge is nothing more than lawyer with a black robe on. This is what Wheaton attorney Terry A. Ekl wants us to believe in his July 28 letter to the editor defending the conduct of Judge Kenneth Popejoy after his arrest.
Mr. Ekl expects the citizens of DuPage County to allow Judge Popejoy to be "treated like any other citizen accused of misconduct."
Mr. Ekl believes that this is only a traffic matter. That it is nothing more than your run-of-the-mill circuit court judge hit-and-run accident. That even though the judge displayed unconscionable decision making, the public has no right to an explanation from Judge Popejoy.
I completely disagree with Mr. Ekl. It's this kind of tolerance of elected officials that creates a culture for a Rod Blagoyivich, George Ryan and others to exist. We don't want it in DuPage County.
