Suspect charged in Bloomingdale car burglaries

A Niles woman remained in DuPage County jail Monday after Bloomingdale police arrested her while investigating a string of burglaries to cars in the village.

Kimberly Zawacki, 30, of the 7200 block of Greenleaf, was stopped by Bloomingdale police just before 3 a.m. Friday on Kingston Lane as officers were keeping a lookout for suspicious activity in the area, authorities said. The DuPage County state's attorney's office later charged her with one felony count of burglary to a motor vehicle.

Police Chief Frank Giammarese said the department recently received numerous reports of burglaries involving unlocked vehicles left out overnight in residential areas.

While patrolling, officers stopped a car Zawacki was riding in and discovered she took a purse left in an unlocked car on the 100 block of Kingston Lane, according to police reports.

She was being held Monday in DuPage County jail on $60,000 bond, officials said.

Bloomingdale police also continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to call the department's investigations section at (630) 529-9868.

Giammarese reminds residents to secure their vehicles and remove any personal property from plain view to minimize future crimes.
